After eight years of dedicated service as the Administrator of two top-tier skilled nursing facilities, Adam Bramwell has embraced a new challenge by taking on the role of Executive Director at Creston Village, an Assisted Living Facility operated by Pegasus Senior Living. This transition marks a significant shift in Adam’s career, as he ventures into a realm of healthcare and living designed to provide a different level of care and support for our well-deserving geriatric population.
We had the privilege of sitting down with Adam to gain insight into his career transition, his passion for senior care, and his vision for the future of Creston Village in Paso Robles.
NEXT BEST HOME: What inspired you to take the leap from administrator of a post-acute facility to Executive Director of Creston Village in Paso Robles?
Adam: What I most enjoyed about my previous position was building relationships with patients, families, and staff. However, with the ever-increasing regulations in a skilled nursing setting, it became more challenging to nurture those relationships. A role in an assisted living community, coupled with my passion for senior care, offered me an opportunity for more balance.
NEXT BEST HOME: What attracted you to Creston Village?
Adam: Creston Village has always been on my radar. It has a long-standing solid reputation in Paso Robles. The residents are comprised of people who were born and raised in the area, some who left and returned because their families are here and they genuinely enjoy the area. When I was working at Vineyard Hills in Templeton, I once brought a resident back home here after a stay at our facility and the initial feeling of this community left a deep impression on me.
NEXT BEST HOME: How do you see your skills from your previous position supporting your new role?
Adam: Working in a skilled nursing setting for 8 years has provided me with a strong clinical acumen. I can observe and understand when a resident is progressing or declining on a physical, cognitive, and social level. I can also identify caregivers and staff who need specific training on how to accommodate the residents’ care needs.
NEXT BEST HOME: How is this generation in Creston Village adapting to technology?
Adam: We have Nintendo Wii, digital Bingo, and our community is fairly tech-savvy. In the next year, we will review products and services to incorporate that will support safety, efficiency, and fall prevention.
NEXT BEST HOME: What kind of events or activities are connected to the local area?
Adam: If you are in Paso Robles, you are in wine country! We have plenty of wine enthusiasts, so many of our events or meals include wine pairings. Additionally, our Life Enrichment Director routinely takes residents out to see the local sights and sounds of North SLO County and to enjoy the many restaurants that we have to offer here.
NEXT BEST HOME: Any pleasant surprises in your new role?
Adam: This is such an inherently friendly community. About eight residents invited me to a new restaurant in town, just across the street from the community. They were so fun and friendly, making the new guy in town feel welcomed and treating me like a friend. It was sincere and so appreciated. But the best one was that last Friday night, I was able to tour my wife and two little girls around the building. At around 6:30 on Friday evenings, our normally quiet and calm sitting area turns into a veritable speak easy Mexican Train Dominos gambling lounge, unbeknownst to me! I came around the corner and was greeted with a whole group who looked like they had been caught red handed by the new director! It was a sight I’ll never forget.
NEXT BEST HOME: What do you foresee in the next year or coming years for Creston Village?
Adam: I think music, entertainment, education, and ongoing social activities are consistent themes, but I really have a vision for an actively aging community. Higher-quality nutrition, opportunities for exercise and movement, and partnering with organizations that can enhance healthy habits and activities are a high priority. I am looking forward to building on a great foundation that has been laid for me by leaders across the 20 years of love and service that precede me.
As Adam Bramwell embarks on this exciting new chapter in his career, it is evident that his dedication to senior care and his fresh perspective on transforming senior living at Creston Village are sure to benefit the residents and the community as a whole.
